Hi there, this is actually my mothers car (chosen with a heavy influence from me :p), the front tyres (Avons) are wearing low on tread while the backs are made by some un-heard of to me far eastern sounding brand. Given thats hardly a recipie for great handling ability, i'm thinking four new tyres of a good brand would be the way forward.

Problem is the handbook only seems to state one width for tyres front and rear on the 16" alloys which her Esprit has, which is obviously what has previously been followed as the Avons on the front are 225 width and coming out from the edge of the rim! Can anyone tell me the corrrect fitment, and also out of intrest the OE tyres that would've been fitted at the factory?

Thanks!

Dependant on the rim width, they are normally fitted with 205/55/16's allround
I have the SLK rims on my 202 which means 7.5 inch front and 8.5 inch at the back. Therefore the tyres would be 205/55 front and 225/50 rear.
But as I say it will be dependant on rim type and width.
Have you got some pics so that someone can identify them for you? They may not be the standard rims.
225's are normally the 17" wheels and will be 45 series at the front and 245/40 at the back. Wheel rim dependant though.

If I'm not mistaken, they look like they are from a W203 model.
Personally I would go with the 205/55/16 all round which essentially is the sport set up which is what your mother has.

You were spot on there Ian

I have the staggered wheel set up on my W202.
205/55-16 on the front (7 inch wide rim), and 225/50-16 on the back (8 inch wide rim).

I'm inclinded to think that the tyres on mine should be the same as above. Curious as to how W202 wheels ended up on the car though, anyone else own a T plate C200 Esprit and know what wheels it should have?

I would only fit the staggered tyre set up if you have staggered wheels. If all 4 wheels are the same width, stick with the 205's

What tyres were you thinking of fitting? I personally prefer Michelin, but I have read many posts on here and the other forum speaking very highly of Falkens and Fuldas.

Iain,
You said thta you have slk rims on the front & rear, did you require spacers & different bolt lengths to fit? Only asking as i have been offerec a set but the et on the rears is different. I have a w202 and offset is 37.

Sorry 203 wheels :p

Anyway i'm sure the wheels are staggered as atm the tyres are both 225 but they sit pretty at the back while at the front the sidewalls are coming out from the edge of the rim.

As to tyres i'm not sure, i was thinking Conti's. That website has a great range compared to the others i've looked at, have you used them personally?

?

This is not something that you can tell by as some tyres have rim protectors, you would need to put a measure through and measure across the rim faces.
