i been told that I need to change the MAF on my car. The garage wanna charge me £527.00 in VAT. They say thats the best price I'll get. the MAF alone is £304.** inc Vat & the rest is labour because apparantly they have to connect & map it on the computer.

I'm sure someone had it done cheaper than this.

i need help asap

Find another garage, or a Bosch specialist. <£100 for the MAS and <£150 including fitting and thats at MB

Go to Euro car parts and buy a genuine bosch MAF (mine was £160 inc vat for my w202 c200) an fit it yourself. All you need is a flat bladed screwdriver for the the large hose clip. You dont need to re-map anything. Just make sure the ignition is off before you unplug the connector on the unit.

Yes & no, the MAS doesn't always store fault codes, so you can just fit a new one. Even if it has stored a fault code it doesn't have to be cleared straight away so just replacing the MAS is enough.

Good stuff! I still think you should fit it yourself as it is so simple. It takes 2 mins to do. Go on give it a try. Look at the thread " How to clean a MAF" to see photos.

Yeah, fit it yourself. If you're uncertain what you're looking for, ask here first, but in truth all you'll need is the correct torx key. Its literally a 5 minute job.

I have a 97 C180. When I bought mine, I rang them up and gave them the details. My engine code is 111.921 ( from the service record), I got the £159.95 one, (434220120). If you look on the tube body of the MAF, you will see a number. Mine shows 0280 217 114. I gave them this number which they use to get the correct part number.
If there are any codes stored in the ECU, I believe you can reset it by disconnecting the battery for a few hours. Just connect it correctly afterwards ( + first then -) but just driving it for a while seems to sort everything out.
Good luck
Allan

waranty company decided to pay out after I went a little mentle. he garage ar charging about £527 waranty company wilpay back £333 of it so I end up paying £197 from my own pocket. its same as buiyng 1 myself as MAF + vat comes to £187 after vat this only cost me £10 more & will be fully guaranteed. After they fit it they will put it on machine to test whether its mixing air/petrol correctly.

This garage should be shot, honestly it's not even a 15 minute job including checking the emmissions.

The warranty company is right. I paid £400 ish for a diagnostic, a new O2 sensor (part was £100) and a MAS on my E240. So - around £300 for a Diagnostic and MAS, and that's not allowing for the O2 sensor being a bit of a bugger to do.
As everyone says, fitting the MAS is a 5 min job for a hamfisted idiot with the wrong tools so if the garage are charging you that much, and that is actually all they are doing, they are ripping you off. I actually removed the MAS when I changed the plugs because it was in the way. It really is 1 clip and a screw and it sits right on top of the engine bay so access is a doddle. Fine use the warranty and a garage, but you shouldn't be chipping in, the warranty co are paying enough for the whole job.

just had the maf supplied & fitted by Deusch Motors Croydon. £527.68 total. The car is performing awesome but idles @ 500 revs & feels like its going to cut out. Is it because its due for a service?
