Hi,
I'm having some trouble with water ingress in the boot. Today I've removed the plastic trims at the top of the estate opening (marked in blue on image) - there was loads of sludge and leaves behind them so I've cleaned them out and popped them back on.

Trouble is, I can't remember if the rubber seal around the hatch went over or under the plastic trim. I'd appreciate it if someone with an estate could check theirs and let me know so I can put it back together properly?

Thanks!

Not that I have the right car, but your photo hasn't uploaded.

That's not my car I'm afraid, just an image I borrowed to point out the associated bits. Mine is Palladium Silver (and a bit damp )

If you haven't cured your water ingress you might like to consider my experience on 203 estates, it looks close to being the same.
I found that water was finding its way around the inside of the push on seal, between the seal and the metal lip of the bodywork.
This was on the vertical sections.

On the 3 estates I've had I removed the seal, cleaned the lip and the inside of the seal.
I ran a thin bead of silicon sealant around the edge of the lip,
pushed the seal back into place.
That solved the problems I had.

Thanks Martin,
If I pour water onto the roof of the car it rolls down, into the gap between the roof and the boot and then comes out of the plastic covering around the top of the window! The only thing I can think is that it's going down, and then straight back up the other side and into the car due to not draining quickly enough. Hopefully the clean out will allow it to drain quicker but I'm not holding my breath.

If the water was running underneath the seal then I don't think it would be coming in the car as it's dry there inside.

It can be handy to use tissue as a tell tale.
If tissue of perhaps 2" long is pushed into the inside of the seal, and gaps left between tissues, it might give indication of where the ingress is taking place.

I've just poured a couple of litres of water where it was previously leaking and none went in the car so, fingers crossed, it looks like it just needed a good clean out.

I've googled this extensively and not found a solution so just sticking a few keywords in in case anyone else has the same issue.

W204, leaking, boot, tailgate, water, estate.

After purchasing my 2010 S204 just before it was 3 years old, I found water getting into the spare wheel well. I checked it straight after a heavy storm and managed to spot water droplets coming in through the air vents in the side pockets either side of the load bay (the sound deadening pads were both damp too).

I marked the ingress points with marker pen and the dealer replaced both ventilation grills. No leaks since (2 years).

Yours may be from other ingress points but worth checking these vents whilst your art it? ( Another favourite is from the rear light clusters).

Good luck.
Phil
