Collected my 2004 CLK yesterday and am delighted to say the least. I thought, and was told by the salesman, that it was "solid" black. This morning I checked the paint code on the web (and the MB Russian site) and am surprised to find it's (197) Obsidian Black Metallic. Looks "solid" black to me though, but hopefully the finish will have the greater durability (and fade resistance) of a metallic.

I've a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone can answer:

1) I've got the electric folding mirrors and they work fine from the dash switches. Is it possible to get them to autofold when the doors are locked? I'm sure I've seen some CLK's with this feature. Can't find anything in the handbook.

2) The radio, the basic CD player with the storage opening below lights up orange, unlike the flourescent bluy-white of the instruments and the rest of the dash. Makes it look a bit cheap at night - it it possible to change the colour of the radio lighting (easily?)?

3) In the handbook, reference is made to an allen key as part of the boot floor took kit, for use in manually closing the cabrolet roof (in the nightmare scenario!). This is missing from my car's tool kit. Can anyone tell me what size of allen key I need to carry.

4) When the speedometer centre display shows temp/station/etc, lower in the display it also shows the speed in Kilometers. Useful, no doubt, when touring abroad, but can it be changed to MPH? Again nowt in the handbook!
And finally..5) In the back of the service book, on the factory print-out specifying chassis, engine numbers etc....... is a three digit number labelled "ausstattung". Is this the radio code?
Hope someone can help.
Doug

I think I can only answer point (4):

It always displays km/h in the lower display. It's the equivalent of having mph and km/h printed on a speedo dial.

On mine there is a selection to have mph in the middle as well as the needle, but it always displays km/h in the lower bit, as you describe.

My CLK is from Dec 2005 so not sure if it works on yours, in the convenience menu, I have set the mirrors to fold on locking the car. If yours is a facelifted model, it should be the same?

Interesting thing on point 2. Whilst the radio is orange, like you describe, on the avantegarde model there is also a subdued orange downlight onto the radio area, coming from the bottom of the rear view mirror.
I'm fairly sure you'd have to change the radio to change it's display but you might be able to blank off the downlight somehow.
I'd like to know if you can get auto park on the 2004 car (it's pre facelift).

As Toby, in point 4. it must display KMH in the display all the time

Thanks for all the replys chaps, so that’s…

1) Mine’s pre-facelift - hence no menu option for auto-foldy-mirrors. Shame!

2) I haven’t noticed a light under the interior mirror - I’ll have a look tonight. Orangy glow will have to stay. I'll get over it !!!

4) Ah, I see… No Kmph on the circular speedometer, so to conform to regulations, one line of the display is used for metric speed measurement. Actually a good idea!

A great source of information, this forum….. just need an answer to the final two - the Allen Key question and the “ausstattung-radio code” query.
Thanks,
Doug

Only one left to go now.
"Ausstattung" is the code No. for the interior trim. For example mine is 731 which is Anthrathice Cloth Trim.
Imediately after that in the sheet is "Lack", which is the colour code. Mine is 723 for Cubanite Silver. Yours will be 197 here.
