My son gave me his old (55 reg) 220 CDI and I've been repairing all the broken bits and faults that have accumulated over the years and 195000 miles.
I drove through Yorkshire once and since then have always watched the pennies so I invariably use second hand bits except in key positions.
The next phase of work involves the PCV system which I deem as a key component and I'm annoyed to discover that I can't easily find a diaphragm to fit in the PCV which forms part of quite an expensive component.
Have I missed something, is there such a beast out there?
One of the reasons for doing this is the amount of small oil leaks on the engine that I believe are exacerbated by the reduced operation of this system.
Second query is the spec sheet from M-B quotes imitation Leather upholstery, is this german longhand for PVC?
Moving on, how can I establish the design power output of the motor, my son swears its 110kW but it doesn't flag up as that when entering the reg no on some sites, just curiosity really.
Very occasionally when starting the binnacle and a whole lot of other components switch off, easily reset by stopping and restarting the motor, is this the sign of a duff battery? It didn't happen on my SLK so I'm stymied.
The last of my general queries is regarding the courtesy lighting, the driver's door doesn't trigger this; the passenger door does is there a secret bunch of commands in the electronics as per audi where one can set this to suit or is it a "STAR" feature.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

220 CDI, 'C' class?
Courtesy light might be a door switch, not sure where to find it on what ever yours is. Otherwise it might be wiring or SAM.
From what I've seen some PCV diaphragms can be replaced, others it's the whole cam cover. I would try to determine the part number and do an eBay search (for starters). This might help with that.
and that's better done when you know the full model number / engine number.

Enter your VIN, there's lots of info to be found.

So my "free" 195000 mile cdi 220 has now racked up £485 worth of fluids and components, both new and used, and is running really sweetly, fwiw the following is a list of all the bits I have put on or through it.
20 litres engine oil including 5 for future top ups, 2 oil filters (I changed the first oil change after 400 miles as a precaution) 10 litres of fuchs 4134 atf and a mercedes filter (the original filter dated 05 was in situ!!!!), 1.2 litres of mb diff oil, front and rear brembo pads (they don't seem to mank up the wheels on my slk) and fitting kits, 2 used really nice leather front sports seats to match the car the old ones really shot, new (s/h) windscreen wiper motor, 3 new wiper blades, air filter (the old one was absolutely solid with sh one t) new mb serpentine belt tensioner, new after market thermostat, new belt, several packets of spire nuts and trim fastening clips, new (used) steering wheel, new mb antifreeze, new after market cooling water expansion tank, new elbow for vacuum pump to servo pipe, the old one was leaking badly, new aftermarket pcv valve, £9 for 3 silly clips for the transmission dipstick tube cap locking clip, new dipstick for the transmission, new mb magnet for the auto box sump.
As I mentioned, the engine is now giving close to 50 mpg on a run, closer to 35 round town and it's nice and comfortable to drive around in for the time being. However it's taken a toll on my knees and back so I need to rest them up as, at my time of life they need time to recover. It needs some of the rear suspension bushes and antiroll bar links renewing but that will happen in a few weeks when my youngest son is going to help with the donkey work.
