Hi all. I was polishing my E320 (2003) and noticed a large number of very small 'chips' damage to the front of the car. I presume they are from stones hitting the car during driving on motorways. Is it reasonable to assume that the dealer would repair them under warranty (I think its 30 years for bodywork)?Cheers.

I'm no expert, but I would have thought that kind of thing would not be covered under the warranty as it would be considered normal wear and tear. I know when we bought our Mercedes it had a few minor stone chips on the bonnet and over time acquired quite a few more but we didn't even consider contacting Mercedes to ask them to repair them.

No, stone chips are not covered under any warranty, even though there have been models where they paint does not stick very well in my view, and chips easily.

I've just had my 320 cdi stonechips done and what a superb job!! The company to try is www.chipsaway.com. They are a franchise and have some very good testimonials on their web page. They also offer a 2 year warranty on their work.

Although the local guy said that he would not be able to achieve 100% perfection, in my opinion he has come very close. I had about 30 or so chips on the bonnet, front valance and a couple of small marks on the rear wing. Did the lot for £100 +VAT. Took him half a day and without a complete front-end respray, it really is good!

We have a chipsaway guy that lives just down the road from us and a few people we know have used him and have been very happy with the results. I don't they are too expensive either :)

No it isn't.
Give chips away a call or else bob down to your dealer and buy a touch up stick. Not as good as a chips away job clearly but it works for me.
Actually I may get chips away to do the front valance - starting to look more black than silver these days!

I guess technically it could, but only if the corrosion began where they had touched it up or the paint finish around the repair was the problem.
I suspect they'd have a hard time arguing on an area they haven't touched. In any case, technically, any repair will invalidate the warranty on that spot.

It does not matter from a warranty point of view if the stone chip is repaired or not. Either way rust in that spot would not be covered as it would always be deemed as being caused by the stone chip.
