As 5pares above and 5 in the link.

When these go down, the engine cuts dead till cold the OK for a while, they measure 1k ohms when good

cheapest from Bosch service centers at £47

When you say lose power & shut off - exactly what does it do?? CP sensor is a very rare failure on a 111 engine. I doubt if this is your problem.

While I am driving the car starts to slow down even though I still have my foot on the accelarater sometimes it kicks back and increases speed but sometimes it just slows down to a complete stop and the rev counter starts to jump up and down between 5 and 15 I usually turn the car off and start it again and it will run fine till the next time. When it first started to happen it was happening every couple of weeks now it is happening nearly every day. Today it happened 3 or 4 times in the space of a couple of hours and it stalled and cut out which it never done before.

Sounds more like an air flow meter/MAF problem, or you have an air leak somewhere. I would spend the CPS money on a diagnosis report instead. Guessing & throwing money at it could get expensive.

I was thinking along the lines of the MAF as well, but on a 95 motor its well worth replacing the cps and the MAF,

Yes as above, after reading again, the CPS is not key sensitive where as the MAF is just unplug it and try the car

You are right no MAF, that is the air temp. if you have a ohmmeter you could remove the CPS and put it in hot water at 100c and see if the resistance stays constant at near enough 1k ohm

Recently changed my CPS and literature I read said that most common symptom of its failure is non-starting of engine. Have you checked your fault codes yet?

Other posts I've read seem to talk about coil failures associated with engine being hot & shutting off. Runs good when engine cold. Never had that problem myself though.

In my experience the crankshaft position sensor either works or it doesn't so I don't think you'd get any erratic symptoms as the engine will just stop.

The cps failed on my Cherokee and it was due to heat - if I let the engine cool down for 10 mins or so it would start again and run until the heat made the cps fail again and then the engine would stop running. Not good when you're doing 60mph on a main road with power steering and brakes!

These symptoms sound like something else to me.

That is the way that everyone that I know of has failed, its only a coil of wire set in resin, its either good or bad, and the current used in this component is too small to give any arcing effect, the expansion when hot causes one end of the wire to loose contact, so the wire is effectively broken
