Engine light has come on, so I ran a diagnostic with an ICarsoft Pro MB Scanner and it says that:- Position sensor 1 for the cranksaft has a malfunction. The sensor is not present. 2011 EClass CGI M271 Engine. Does this mean that it just needs replacing? Also where is this?

Replace with MB only or any make? For example Opie.

Now cleared the fault code and taken the car out and you would expect the engine light to immediately come back on, but no, not yet.

Most people would say MB only , but I did replace my E crankshaft sensor a few years ago with a Bosch one .
Probably worth buying one and putting in the car as it might be starting to play up ?

Not a nice job to replace a CPS. Its right on top of the transmission directly below the bulkhead on the passenger side.
I would buy OEM myself. I had one fitted to my previous E55 and parts and labour came to just under £200.

Don't ignore the fault. It will get worse until it just refuses to start once cooled down.

Had to go up to Birmingham today. A round trip of around 220 miles and nothing. No light, no change in the car at all. Maybe just an hiccup last time, but I will keep an eye on it.
