I've been experiencing a creaking sound from under the driver footwell when travelling at slow speeds, pulling away from a standstill and slowing down whilst crawling in traffic. At speed the creaking noise isn't noticable. My limited knowledge suggests that this noise could be bush related such as the anti roll bar bushes. Question is do the R129's have them and if so could this be my problem? Any one got any ideas what this problem is and how expensive is it likely to be? Television, you usually have some good ideas.

Our lovely 129's are based on a 124 and I stil feel that my 300TE was one of the nicest cars that I have ever owned. Maybe I love my SL for the same reason. Being 124 based front suspension, there is a lot of post here.
The site below shows all of the bushes, go to the 129 and then 063 or 064 dependent on your year

By having some one push the car down at the front, while you listen, may guide you to the noise. Anti roll bar rubbers can cause it,as well as the bottom wish bone, also mounted in rubber bushes, see how it goes, and come back with any info. Waxoil is a very good rubber lubricant, but not easy to get into the bushes, otherwise any earosol rubber lubricant.

W202 similar problem

Hi there, am a new member, sorry if this is in the wrong section or other info is available on this problem already as I can't find anything specific.

Anyway I have a similiar problem as mentioned above on my W202 C180 Elegance. Its a August 1994 model with 80,000 miles.

I also have a creaking noise which comes from the front right somewhere and can be heard also at slow speeds, pulling away from a standstill/crawling in traffic, I can also hear it when getting out of the car (it then sounds like a creaking from the suspension- as a novices guess) Also, up to speeds of about 30 mph and on a smooth road I can then hear a different sort of noise which sounds more like a rattle.

I was told by my garage that this was the anti roll bar bushes. After a recent service/MOT (it passed fine) they were then replaced but the noise is still there and just as bad as ever. I have also tried applying some silicone spray but this hasnt helped. (someone told me wax oil wasnt good as this could pick up grit etc??)Anyway if anyone could advise/help that would be great thanks.

creaks

Well am taking the car to George Fraser tomorrow but over the phone he suggests its possibly the ball joints. The creaking is now loud at slow and medium speeds and very noisy wheel turning the steering wheel at stop. Hopefuly the damage isn't going to be too bad to my wallet as its now due its 36000 mile monster service....:(

I have used Waxoil for years, and I do not see how it can pick up dirt or grit, anymore than wet mud, it is very kind to rubber, within the next few days, both of my cars will be done.

Creaks no more?

:mad:Typical isn't it? I take the car down to George Fraser to get a free inspection on the creaks and the car doesn't make a sound. The fact that it was wet today and much cooler than thurs suggests that the water and the cooler temprature have reduced the noises coming from the joints. George's mechanics weren't able to detect anything wrong with the cars bushes, joints or suspension but did tell me that one of the belt tensioners (on the front of the engine block) needs replacing which adds about another 200-300 to the major service bill coming my way in the next fortnight:-(. Has anybody else had problems like this on their Mercedes?

I think that these faults can happen on any model or make of car, the fact that it stops doing it in the rain, indicates that Wax oil could cure it, and no major fault.

Creaking - detected...broken engine mount (

Took my car to get the brakes replaced and asked their opinion on the creaking which comes and goes. The mechanic opened the bonnet, and moved the engine with his hands which moved about 2 or 3 inches and he siad without hesitation that he thought the problem was a broken engine mount :(. Anyway have ordered the part from Eurocarparts, £91 vs £126 from a stealership. Anyone got any ideas how long this job will take to do? The mount is on the driver side.

Its an easy job, just got to jack the engine and replace it, see below
