Does anyone know where I can get a ECU cruise control amplifer and actuator checked / serviced / repaired and the likely cost. Cruise does not work although it did. Have changed brake light switch to no avail.
Also can someone give me details of where the actuator is and how to remove it - is it a job for a reasonable DIY er. Car is a 1995 (last of the W124 models) E300D.
Many thanks all

you havent changed your wheels or alloys to a different size have you? if you have the incorrect size apparntly causes problems with cruise control, if you do a search on here there is a thread on it.

JBerks, Myros, Rajinda 1 - Many thanks for responses I will contact the people in Chatham Kent, I will also review the ebay option, and no I haven't changed tyres wheels etc prior to it packing up.
If anyone can give advice on where and how to remove actuator, I would be extremely grateful.

May be worth checking to see if you have power to the ECU, my cruise control didn't work when I bought the car and after changing almost every part including the ECU we found that one of the wiring connectors was faulty - no power - replaced connector and all was well again.

The Actuator is screwed to the cylinder head by the throtle control, a ball joint and rod couple it to the throtle, the cables are fastened to the holder on coolant tank and plugs in to 8 pin connector by tank.
Several things could be wrong, you have a hall sensor in the speedometer ass; You have a cruise control amplifier in the modual box. its the one with the box on the front top built in.

Many thanks for your help. Do you know if the inlet manifold needs to be removed to get at the actuator and if so is this a big job or can it be undertaken by a reasonable diy "mechanic". e.g. last week I removed the heater motor & fan which involves removing the windscreen motor assembly etc. without to much difficulty. (An example of my ability) It is more complex than that.
Cheers

If you look at the cylinder head where the throtle linkage is placed, it is placed next to it. and controlled by a shot rod from the throtle linkage, you have to remove nothing in order to remove it.
earlier cars than yours had the hall effect sensor (magnetic impulse) replaced with a modified version. This is placed in the speedo head.
The amplifier control box that sits in the module box has a plug-in ressistor on top this can have poor contacts where it plugs in (known fault).

Television - Many thanks for your response and information. I can see a rod from the throttle linkage but it is positioned through a gap in the inlet manifold. I have a feeling I will have to remove the inlet manifold to get at the actuator. Also on my vehicle there is a single manifold that runs across the top of the cylinder head (left to right when looking from the front of the car) joining the inlet manifold on the left of the cylinder head. I have a Haynes manual but it only goes up to 1993 and mine is a 1995 - the last of the W124 models. Looking at the Haynes manual the cross piece mentioned above looks like the design for Turbo Diesels although mine in not Turbo. Does this make sense????
Many thanks

Sorry did not see this, yes the air cleaner cross pipe must be removed and the inlet manifold and transfer lever on throtle.

Cruise control

Golfsec5 - I am sorry that i have not answered your query sooner, but after talking to my mechanic about the C/C problem he told me what to look for, here goes. -- Find the main ECU near the inlet Manifold, from that there is a lead/wire running down to a multiplug (6or8 pins) just behind the N/Side headlamp, for some reason this plug can rot out, as did on mine subsequently loss of power to the ECU. Mine suffered a broken wire and corrosion in the plug itself, once this was sorted all was fine. I hope that this may be of some help, and I appologize once again for the delay inanswering.

Many thanks for your response and info. Providing it's not subzero I will have a look this weekend and see if what you experienced has happened here.
Many thank again
