CRUISE CONTROL NOT WORKING

I have a 190E Auto 1989 its done 158,000miles i have looked through the history and cant seem to find a problem with this in the passed, cruise control however does not seem to work does anyone have any ideas what it could be, or if any of you have come across the same problem your help would be great
