Cruise Control Stick

Hi Folks,

After having only had my lovely E240 for one day, had a play with the cruise control, all working fine till (I think I pushed it too hard) the stalk went floppy!

I guess I broke it -- Cosworth has one in the spare part section and has asked me to make an offer on it -- trouble is I have no idea what a new one would be, or indeed how much one should pay for a second hand one.

I'm not trying to have some kind of dutch auction, just want to offer the guy a fair price.

Hope you can help

Cheers

Honestly, I've no idea.

I guess asking a dealer to give you a price would be a start. I know that there are two types of stalk. One allows you to set a speed limiter by pushing the end of the stalk in and has an indicator LED in the end.

It'd be worth checking whether the stalk itself is one piece with the switch/catch.

I've done some digging and found a post on a USA forum from 2003, where it appears that the stalk can 'pop-out' and just requires putting back????

Anyone know anything about that? The description on the 2003 posting is vague about how to put it bcak other than you have to dismantle the steering wheel etc to sort it.

Any advice on this or the above would be much appreciated.

Cheers

There are a couple of things that I would like to discuss with you !!

Anyway Vin for now is 210261

Thanks in anticipation

Bushy

PS if I can't PM am I allowed to go on 31st May???

Hi Malcolm,

Oh yes yes yes !

I have the document AR54.25-P-2800EA, which is helpful, but no substitute for someone who knows these things. Have you ever heard of them just needing to be 'popped' back in?

Only the knob end, not the stalk into the switch

Oh dear :cry::cry::cry:

Looks like I'll need a new one then !

Ok so it is the one with the speed limiter, nice yellow LED in the stalk, do you know the part number so I can cross check with Cosworth, and also a sensible price to offer for a second hand one?

Cheers

Brilliant :D

Tell me how did you learn to read russian?

A long time ago I actually qualified in russian language, I have an OMLAC in the subject (prize for anyone who guesses what one of those is!), but have to admit that I can't remember a thing, well maybe how to say a few words, but nothing written (plus this keyboard doesn't have the right keys!).

OK so anyone any idea of a sensible price?

Cheers

Swedish was hard enough at the age that I learnt it ;)

Why not ask MB how much and that will be an indication of what they cost

Thanks again Malcolm,

Calls into MB (cringe) thought I'd ask how much to have it done too, just for the laugh you understand.

Will post the response

Cheers

Hi

Have you tried just pushing it back in??? One of our kids swung on mine one time and i thought i was going to have to buy a new on. I pushed the stalk back in and it was ok works fine on the down stroke and with a bit of fiddling on the up stroke. I took the wheel off one time and pushed it back in properly but someone swung on it again and it has been popped in (Just) for ages now. Worth a try.

Hi 230K,

I kinda thought I should seek some advice first, hoping that someone would say 'just push it bak in'

Thanks, will give it a little push tomorrow.

Keep you posted

Hi All,

Phoned MB Oxford for a price for the part, and fitting just for the laugh, and guess what......

Yep you can keep guessing, 'cause they haven't phoned back yet!! What kind of customer service is that???

Anyway after 230k said he'd 'pushed' his back in .......... I did the same, and hey presto it went back in, and works !!! Not even the problems that 230k said he had afterwards.

So thank you all for the information, I think its been a worthwhile discussion, and whatsmore there is a fee free fix (Yippee).

Hope it'll help others too

Cheers
