I own a 1998 c200 classic. I recently had the standard steel wheels replaced for genuine mercedes AMG alloys (235,45,17 back, 225, 45, 17 front).
the cruise control now works only at speeds under 65 mph. is this due to the change of wheels? has anybody else experienced a similar problem?
thanks in advance.
Jas.

Cruise Control

If this was done in a tyre depot there is a chance they may have knocked a sensor whilst fitting the wheels.

Ask them to temporarily refit the original wheels - if the problem is still present with the originals then it must be down to damage incurred during fitting.

Cruise control

I have this problem on my C200 and according to MB its because I purchased an imported car which has a built in limiter which causes the C Con to drop out at around 65 mph. In dispute with the dealer at present.

Sound like tosh to me. My car was imported as a used car from Germany (British spec though) as the first owner was a serving army officer who purchased the car under the NATO discount scheme, then sold the car at a pre arranged price to a MB dealer in Ipswich.

My cruise will stay at any speed I set it at.

It does seem now that the problem was down to one of the wheels being fitted with a wrong tyre!!! (see other question above) dealer has fitted new tyres all round and all seems to be ok. Apparantly its to do with the speed sensors which are fitted to the wheels.
Does your Merc have a means of setting the limiter or is it like mine minus the button on the end of the C Con stalk?

cruise controll

Hi

you have different wheel speeds. tyre sizes work as follows I believe

235 mm wide 45%(235)side wall depth 17 Inch wheel

you have 235 45 and 225 45 on the same car this will give a different rolling diameter and create the problem you have

Cruise controll is very very sensative to wheel speed consult a tyre specialist but of the top of my head you could try 225 50s or just put 225 45 all round
