Quite simple really, press it up or down to set it and press it away from you to cancel and pull it towards you to resume. If you wish to drop the speed slightly then hold the lever down and if you wish to increase the speed slightly hold the lever up. It works from about 25mph up.
It can be fun to use the resume from low speed and watch the car take off on its own, it can be disconcerting to start with but once you get used to it it's useful.

To add to Blobcat. C/C is very clever, in that it 'remembers' how you accelerated upto your chosen speed.!

In other words, if you 'floor it' and then set c/c, when you 'resume' - hold onto the steering wheel...!!!!!

On the other hand, if you accelerate in 'pedestrian' mode - selecting Resume will get you there - eventualy.!

Damn clever these Japanese :D

I don,t think this will be the case with this model as a 1997 C230K will be pre face lift and had mechanical actuated C/C, rather than electronic like the later models.
