I would be grateful if somebody can advise is it economically and technically feasable to fit cruise control to a 1989 W124 diesel estate (250TD)? If so, where would you get the components, how much might they cost and who might fit it?
Thanks
John

There are a number of after market cruise control systems, if you know anyone in the Caravan Club, look in the back of their monthly magazine and there are normally two or three companies advertising. One of them is www.conrad-anderson.co.uk Have a look at the systems available

Dear Geoff,
Thank you for this useful web site contact address for cruise control. It ceratinly gives me some idea of what might be possible. Has anybody on the forum fitted cruise control to an older W124 diesel ?
Thanks
John

I have got an after-maket kit that I am about to fit to a 1987 W124 260E. I bought it off ebay for £170, plus £15 for the speed sensor. It is the same as those sold by www.ultimatedesign.co.uk (kit ES-003). The guy selling them was based in Coventry and would have fitted it for about £90.

I have fitted a vacuum one to an old 1981 range rover for about £120. It took me about 3-4 hours to fit, but was relatively straight forward if you can understand cars. The vacuum source came from the brake servo vacuum pipe, although there is a risk that if the cruise control goes wrong, you can loose the brake servo assistance! The vacuum ones now suggest that you take a vacuum source from another location.

This time I went for the fully electronic version, hence the higher price, but they are supposed to be better. I will remove it when I sell the car and fit it to the next one.
