Never used the DAB on the R Class. Thought I would try it.
So I scan the stations to get the ensemble list - DAB station list all shows up.
So assuming antenna must be working, but zero sound.

Anyone have any ideas.

Anyone know where the amp is located. I am hoping a wire is not connected.

Note I got this car a few months ago and never tried DAB before so nothing has been recently done aside from updating with the new navi dvd.

if it picks up the channel list, then the antenna must work, if you can see the channel list on the screen then the MOST must work (I think?)

in normal circumstances thus the sound should happen....

MAYBE as they remember the vol setting try again and turn up the volume ?

OR

is it seeing LOTS of channels and has crashed as it needs the >99 channel list update?

you could go driving somewhere more remote or poor signal strength and try again. if its the >99 bug, fewer channels might see it come back to life... as far as I know the bug causes everything to stop (but maybe that event comes with a signal error message?)

As above but also do you have anything plugged into the 12v socket. a lot of power adapters cause DAB interference.

Thanks chaps. I was sitting in the car with the DAB on. It played for 10s then went silent again.

I am getting the full list of stations (ensemble as called in Command).
So it is working - at sorts.

I am guessing I am in poor reception area.

What is the update to which you refer. Could be a lead...

Thanks again.

Since Feb 2016 and the UK restructuring of digital radio services, we currently have side by side broadcast of BOTH old DAB and better DAB+ signals

This introduced the ability for >100 channel reception, which crashes all those C and E class units as they can't understand a world of more than 99 channels (when the radio finds enough). A patch to resolve that bug was available I think Oct 2016 and they probably noticed it could do DAB+ at the same time.

of course you might just need to retune?

on mine down the bottom I have chevrons << and >> this lets you manually move between the differing multiplexes (bundles of channels) if you go into one you can get it to think what's "now" in that multiplex. They all got a rehash in 2016 and need to re see the world. If you didn't do that coz never used it may help. Or push down comand and see if other channels (that still exist) across other multiplexes are stored in memory.

Alternately as now u proved it works, but is terrible - the std antenna is of a very interesting quality and an £11 one off ebay is about 600% better than those fitted to many Mercedes models from the factory (if you were fighting with your dealer for a car in warranty mid 2016 you might have got the antenna module replaced with a later design. But it seems they don't want anyone to know that)
