Hi guys,

Just a quick one.
The backlight/bulb on the speedo has gone. Is it easy to replace and if so step by step instruction would be great please.

Incidentally, could this be the cause of my failure light on the dash to intermittently come on and off??? because no other bulbs seems to have failed.

Any advice would be helpful.

Cheers

getting to dash bulb can be done but requires a puller to get the cluster out.

also the bulb failure warning light can come on if your licence plate bulbs are knackered-have you checked these.

another common reason is if the wrong wattage bulb is fitted, the bulb will work but the waring light will glow as well :D

good luck!

This is just to expand a bit on Sunil's comments.

If the instrument cluster is still similar to the W126, a pair of removal tools can easily be fabricated from stiff wire (e.g. coat-hanger). Make a 5mm right-angled hook on one end of a 15cm straight length of wire - you'll need 2 such tools. Insert the wires, with the hooks oriented vertically, at each side of the cluster. Twist the wires through 90deg so that the hooks will engage behind the cluster, then pull. Not sure whether you will have an adjustable steering column - if so you may need to adjust to give clearance; if not you will probably need to remove the steering wheel.

The bulb failure warning system only checks exterior lights. Intermittent on/off could be caused by a bulb that is close to failing. Once the warning light comes on all the time you should be able to spot the failed bulb.
