Hi all
I have wanted a mercedes since i was a kid now at the grand old age of 38 i have finally bought my 1st one! im so over the moon! i just bought a C180 Classic with a full history dark blue in colour and a real joy to drive with 91000 on the clock.

i have two slight problems:
1st although the heaters work fine no matter which setting i set it to it wont blow out of the top towards the front screen
2nd two instrument fascia lights are not working so i need to find out how to change them. one is situated behind the driver side heater temperature control and the second is situated behind the headlight control switch i need to find out how to replace these please.
Also can anyone tell me where close to birmingham i can purchase a set of new blue floor mats for my car.
Ranjo

All help will be appreciated and soon i hope tp post a few pics of my new pride and joy:)

I have seen this once before, possibly. Many moons ago I had a C class in with this fault. The owner had changed the radio, and had pulled the whole fascia back when trying to get it out. The air direction control has a long 'stick' that projects down into the depths of the dash. It can get pulled out of its socket, and the fascia can be pushed back without re-engaging it. Could be that...

That's assuming you have manual heater, rather than electronic climate. They are vacuum controlled, but a leak on those means you only get air from the screen vents...

The headlamp switch does not light up (I am99% sure of that) if the bulb has gone in the heater control box you have to pull the knob off with a pair of pliers with some cloth over the knob so that you do not mark it.

I take it the car is a 202

progress report

hi All
the front screen blower is now working. Problem was exactly what Uncle Benz sugested.
The dash bulb light still remains. I have bought the bulbs and removed the heater control knobs but cant get at the bulbs as they seem to be behind a plastic sheet of some sort. My electrics guy took it apart but reckons it needs to be desoldered then the bulb changed and then resoldered seems like a hell of a long way to change a bulb!

hi television
mate i sure am glad for your help. cant seem to move the plastic out the way it seems to be sealed in some how. also been told that there are two bulbs on the headlight switch one is for the fog light and apparently there is another one that blows often because it is always illuminated whilst the car is running.

Ranjo, the headlight switch does light up. And you're right, unless the car is not running, they are always lit up.

Not sure how to change the bulb.

Hi All

As regards the illumination for the headlight switch, again Malcolm you were spot on i opened it up and there is not a bulb there so not meant to light up. Malcolm your a Mercedes Benz god. Thank you :)
I have today relised my car does not have a high level brake light, most C180s seem to have them can you advise is the classic supposed to have one?

You can always add the things that other models have in the same range.

I know the feeling with you first MB just looking here and there, seeing how well it is made, I do not think that there is anything else out there that drives or feels the same
