hi, can anyone enlighten me as to the correct type of bulbs to put in the heater controls of my 1996 w124 e200. i've heard it mentioned that they should be 0.4 something (either volts or watts). all i can find are 1.2 and 1.5. the bulbs i've taken out are frosted and i can't find any info on them. if anyone does have the correct info that would be much appreciated and also can anyone recommend a supplier. also i have noticed that the bulbs only illuminate the movable part of the dials (ie the pointer)and not the fan speed ( I, II, III.), air direction or temperature wheels, are there other bulbs for these parts and if so any info on fitting would be much appreciated too. many thanks, rod.

Hi,

I have just done the same thing and done new bulbs in the temperature wheels and dials.

The correct bulb is 12 volt 0.5 watt.
You will struggle to find it at any spares shops or halfords, at least i struggled. So i have put in 1.2 watt bulbs instead, no problems so far.

I take it you have got as far as taking the direction and speed dials off, and found those bulbs in the center. If not, to get those of, the left dial must have the arow pointing left, then pull hard. The right dial must have the arrow pointing right, and pull hard.

To get to the other 2 bulbs for the temperature wheels you need to do the following.

Undo the nut on each dial, they are 24mm if i remember right.
Then you may have to undo two screws at the bottom of that panel just by he radio (they are definately there on early models, but nothing was there on my 1995 model), after they are undo, or not there, lift the bottom of the panel up, it kind of hindges at the top untill it i nearly as far up as it goes and will then come away.

Then aroung the dial area will be a clear plastic peice, prise at the bottom of it and pull it out, (it has clips top and bottom). under those, right next to each temperature dial is the bulb that illuminates it.

Then reasemmble in reverse !

good luck

I understand that many Citreon cars use the same bulbs

Go to your dealers and get the right bulbs, why penny pinch for something so cheap.
