but there have been very few succesful prosecutions. A decent brief would chew them up and spit them out. After all, they aren't lying to the police or obstructing the police in their duty, merely warning other motorists to observe their speed.

If you stick cameras in wheely bins or disguise police camera vans to look like a builders van parked at the side of the road, what did they think expect, that the motorists would not fight back? We should all buy them.

Yes, but they don't give you a fine & put points on your licence if you stray over the limit.
