Morning

I've got a 1988 300TE which I've had for a couple of months. It runs well apart from a cold start problem (suspected OVP failure), slipping auto box between 2nd and 3rd (£500 to fix apparently) and a minor oil leak (will sort at next oil service).

My main problem other than these is dashboard lights. I had lights for the speedo etc when I got it and I have replaced the light for the auto box and the dials for the fan speed and direction, but I now have two temperature wheels which do not illuminate and the circular areas around the aforementioned dials are still in darkness.

I presume these have the tiny little lights that the ones I have replaced had, but I don't know how to get to them and I'm frightened to start levering stuff off willy nilly as I don't want to break anything!

Please help, how do I get to the blown bulbs?

First of all - you could find the answer by using the search facility on this forum. I say this not to poke you in the eye but just to alert you to the facility because otherwise you could be sat waiting for days for a reply, indeed there is no guarantee you will get a reply - meanwhile there is info waiting for you - all you have to do is frame the question - try it now using the terms 'panel AND lights' (leaving out the punctuation).

Well you have discovered how to replace the lamps in the blower speed and vent control knobs - pull those knobs off again and you should see the largish spindle nuts that hold the panel in place - remove these then directly above the stereo you will find there are two small screws holding the bottom of the panel in place along the lower edge. Once done the wood trim will lift off.

This then leaves enables you to access the heater control panel itself which if I recall correctly is just a matter of 4 screws (all visible) and then carefully extracting it over the top of the two spindles - you can then replace the two lamps for the temp setting control wheels.

Hope this helps

Thanks very much - did the search as you suggested but your reply was definitely the most relevant
