Hi
i have just today purchased a 1996 c36 AMG. The car is in excellent shape and was a traded in to a friend who specialises in mercedes, bmw's etc. The car drives great, kicks down fine, goes like a whippet, and has had the ecu and wiring replaced at a cost of £2500.
The only major issue is that basically the dashboard doesn't work!
The speedo doesnt read, the rev counter doesn't move - though i saw it work once today, occasionally the fuel gauge works - about 1 time in four, all the warning lights are on - abs, brake pads etc, the mileage has stopped going up etc.
Apparently the previous owner had it checked out at an MB dealer and they said it needed a new dash unit at a cost of around £400+vat.
Has anyone had any similar problems, or have i been given a bum steer as to what the problem is? Also will a second hand unit from any other c class of that year fit? i have looked at the one in a 230 kompressor and it was clocked to 160 and looked the same....
Any thoughts, constructive criticism etc v welcome!
Thanks in advance
Paul
