Hi Guys I am new to the forum and require some help.
I own a 1998 c180 Elegance and recently took it to a Garage to have a Gas conversion done I was told it would take 5 days and drop it off mon and collect sat am which was fine I was due a call from the garage fri pm to say it was done and collect Sat. when there was no call I got worried and called them myself and was told that after the conversion had been done the cars ASR lights had lit up on the dash and Esr ABS lights were also on basically all the warning lights had come on and the ABS ECU had failed the car wont come out of 2nd gear and that they had not gone anywhere near that ecu to cause this fault my concerns were the car was running fine when I dropped it off and they must have caused this to happren.

Any ideas from any members as this paticular ECU costs £4-£500 and I hold the garage responsible?

Nightmare. For both you and them. They probably didn't go neat the ecu but they could easily have done something electrically that has blown it. I guess you could pay to have a prefesssional inspection done but that may not prove anything either.
If it were me, I'd suggest that they strip the ecu out and send it for repair and let the repairer provide a report of the failure as to whether it was a common failure or it had actually been blown. It does depend on how much you can trust them though but either way it should be a lot cheaper than a replacement.

if it's just a burnt track I'd have thought it could be repaired? Lots of folk fix ecus these days - I'd expect around £150-£200 for someone to sort it. A new one should be a last restort. Google ECU repair.
