Hi has anyone installed a Nextbase 522 dashcam, or any dashcam for that matter, if so what is the best position to fit it i.e. to one side or behind the rear view mirror, or below the rear view mirror ? any tips would be appreciated. thank you.

I don't have a Dashcam, or plan to have one but I would have thought behind the rear view mirror was probably the best place. That way it doesn't obscure your vision at all :)

Anywhere at the top of the screen that has a clear view of the road and is as central as possible. I've fitted ours behind the rear view mirror left of center so not visible from the drivers seat.

Yes absolutely mounted behind the rear view mirror as high as you can get it.
It will not matter if you happen to be a bit off centre because the wide angle lens on these things really is super wide!
I didnt get around to fitting my dashcam on my previous Mercedes because my preference is to have it permanently plugged into the centre console 12V outlet, but on my previous and current cars this requires leaving the sliding door on my centre console fully open which I dont like.
This means it will need to be hardwired so not quite as straightforward.

As high and central as possible.
But plug it in and try it first. USB kit can cause a lot of RF interference. On yours there is likely no issue but best test it before sticking it on.
Watch for the auto 'stuff' grid obstructing the view.

On the 639 the antenna is within the front screen, the amp is in the ceiling above the mirror. Anywhere near the mirror reduces FM reception dramatically.

As above. My Smarts is to the side of the rear view mirror but the ML's is at the top of the screen to the left of the rvm. Both are just within the sweep of the wiper.

Mine have always been as high as possible to the left of the rear view mirror. You have to be careful not to obscure the drivers view or that could make it illegal or an MOT issue.

After battling with the youth's terrible Insurance Company despite a dashcam I wouldn't be without one.

Shifting them from the obviously Industry agreed 50/50 was a long and frankly ridiculous pantomime.

As said high and in the middle for the camera and hardwire it.

Definitely get it hardwired and get one that works when parked, recording motion and any impact .

Many thanks for all replies. Figured out a good position, just waiting for hard wire kit to arrive then it's all go.

I just plugged mine into the 12v socket in the boot then hid the cable round to the dash cam saved having to hardwire and it works off the ignition live
