Should I get merc battery?E320 PETROL ESTATE 1997

I have had 3 major fights with Halfords, I was stuck and Halfords was the only place open, so I bought one. 3 weeks later it was flat, the argued it was the car, I started to shout and it was replaced, same thing 3 weeks later so they swaped it for a Lucas with 4 year guarantee. 3 years later dead again, they said it was the car, so I drove to the lucas test center they confirmed it was the battery, and they exchanged it.
Halfords use test gear that shows that the battery is good when it is not.

Take your battery back and exchange it for a good make, just pay the difference in the price.

Sorry to be a purveyor of doom but I have had the same experience with Halfrauds as Malcolm - though not as many times - gave up in the end and bought a Bosch.:D

If you shout on a busy day they will get you a good make and you just pay the difference

dont give halfords a slating quite yet , yes there lower range batteries suck , but there own brand top line versions are very good components , unfortunately the price reflects this but you pay for quality. and no i dont work for halfords lol

p.s am i the only sad person who thinks duracell would do well if they made a car battery which was coloured and labeled like there small alkaline batterys :p

The attitude of the sales boys are as bad as their batteries, they are issued with testers that show that the battery is good when it is not, the heart ache this must cause to non technical customers does not bare thinking about.

Sorry I hate what they stand for

Hi Guys,
I replaced my battery recently ( hoping to get the seats to work as they should!) and had a similar problem: it went flat within a few days. So I charged it up myself and all's been well for several months. The 'chaps' at the shop told me the batteries are ready charged at point of sale. However, if you're not going to do moon-shot mileage straight away and maybe have a relcalcitrant alternator then the battery may not get up to speed without intervention. Of course the things should not be sold in an unprepared state.... but we know how that chimes with Murphy's Law don't we?

Let us not forget that most batteries have a charge by date and it really is best to give them a good charge on a good quality charger before casting them off as done for!? Which reminds me. Mine is due some fettling. I'll be sure and have a look Sunday. Little and often is the secret. I dunno, todays throw away culture will be the end of us all. Have you any idea how long they keep batteries running in Havana? 50 years and counting that's how long! Shame on us...

They produce wonderful 'styling kits' for the 'Corsa/Saxo/Fiesta Kids', don't they?

Also, they have a 3 for 2 offer for Autoglym products at the moment.

That's it really.

Snag is that when a cell has gone, thats it, even if only a few years old, if its partial short circuit the voltage will be low, high resistance cell, and the car will not start in the morning
