Dead dashboard!

I have an '04 Kompressor automatic which I've owned for eight years. Five weeks ago, I started the car and as I drove off, I noticed that the dashboard was blank. The car started fine, everything worked, including electric windows. Only difference was that the lights camer on and stayed on until I shut down the engine. I took the car to a garage that advertises itself as a Mercedes specialist. They told me that they would send the dashboard off to a specialist company they use for testing. Since then, my dashboard has been up and down to this company and my car is still in the garage! When my dash is returned and installed, the car won't start. The garage took a dash from another car and tried it out in my car and my car started so the fault is definitely in the dash. This has now happened three times. I was told this morning that they can't find the fault. I am beginning to despair. Would you recommend I instruct my garage to install a new dash and surely this shouldn't happen to a Mercedes? Has anyone else had this problem?

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you can solve the problem by replacing the dashboard so in my opinion why not source a known good example from a specialist breaker and have the mileage corrected. This shouldn't cost the earth, you should be able to pick a used dash up for around £100 and the mileage correction shouldn't cost the earth. These units new from MB are circa £600+, if you decide to go the new route Oxford MB give a 10% discount.
