I posted a thread a while back asking a few questions about potential ownership of a MB but got limited responses. However I persisted and have put a (returnable) deposit down on a car.

Any opinions (good or bad, as harsh as you like) on whether this seems a reasonable deal, anything to check first, any guidance, etc.

2006/06 C220CDi estate automatic Avantgarde + sports pack with 52k on the clocks through MB approved used programme. Set my budget clearly at the start and got it for £15000 (was on the web at £16995 and screen price £16495).

Its metallic black with black leather, very clean as expected through MB (and still has to be officially prepped for sale), went well on test drive and ticks the spec required. All-in pretty damn well close to my desired spec' of car.

Avantgarde with sports pack, full leather interior, 17" alloys, sports suspension. Other than that I think its in standard trim. Comes with dealer warranty and the full checks, etc. What desireable options should I be looking out for? I thought the Avantgarde was top spec so fully loaded, seems to have what I want on it. Only thing I would add is rear parking sensors and these can be retro-fitted.

i got the 320 petrol spec the same as yours and got to say i wouldnt want any other car, untill i have to fill it up, said it on here before but you cant go wrong buying from merc as the used warranty is the best you can get, its a good spec and i think a pretty good price, as malcolm said the later ones are good value and a lot off car!!!

advice PLEASE

At risk of alienating myself as sounding like an ungrateful git:rolleyes: I've put a couple of posts on looking for advice before I bought a Merc' but only got limited responses.

Apologies if not correct protocols followed or unwritten rules transgressed but I was hoping to get some decent feedback to help in my decision/search.

I have to splash the wonga down next weekend so if there is ANYTHING I should be checking first all advice very gratefully received

Forums are odd things some get loads of answers some do not,, it can depend on the time of the post or who has the time, others may not answer for fear that they do not have the knowledge for a good answer

Always re post, not on a Sunday though as its a quiet day. saying that I have answered 140 post today on forums, but that is mainly due to to the fact that it is Sunday as said.

Repost in the week as many times as you wish

Only comment I'd make, having tested a 17" wheel model was that it was truly awful to drive (Avantgarde too - Pirelli P0's) on anything remotely poor road-wise.

So bad in fact, that I didn't buy the otherwise spot-on car. Tried a standard spec, and it was soooo much better to drive.

I wondered about the wheels as my last car had 17" with 40 profile tyres and was on the hard side but not too bad. On test drive I thought it no worse than last car.

Black with black interior always looks the DB's to me but 'boring' silver would have been my preferred choice but when its 2nd hand I wouldn't discount a car just on colour (I even bought a 'turd brown' maestro once....)

Very good point - mine's black - Obsidian - it's such a disaster to keep clean and tidy that I just don't bother with the outside - but you can get away with that with an estate - just looks like it gets used!

Sounds like you got a nice car at a good price. Good haggling. Best ones tend to end up with dealers.

I wouldn't worry at all about black. One of mine is a very dark blue and yes it shows the dirt a bit more than my silver one, but it is the same amount of dirt. No harder to clean (£5 to the local car cleaners and it is done:D). My daughter has a Black Merc and had a black MINI before. Bit more effort, she says, but well worth it as cars do look so terrific in really dark colours.Just don't get too fussy about a few raindrops.

Don't forget, just before it is 3 years old you can join Service Plus and that covers virtually all maintenance bills and effectively acts as an extended warranty up to 6 years or 120,000 miles whichever comes first. Search for recent threads and see MB website for details.
