Got a letter through today from the 'Surrey Community Speed Watch' people telling me that my car was clocked breaking a 30 limit last week. It's not endorsable, just a warning, but a black mark has been placed against my car on the system. Thing is, it's been at the dealers for 3 weeks.

What would you guys do ?

TIA

Write to the dealer principle and ask them for the information as to who was driving your car on the day as you 'have' to provide the information to the local speed watch people. Once you have that information I would write to Slurrey Speed Watch and give them the details.

I would get the dealership to arrange some sort of compensation for that, cheeky lot, why were they driving it anyway?

The car has been in for a rust repair and diff seal leak. Also bushes and other suspension parts all under warranty. But I have had new discs, calipers pads and other odds and ends, not to mention the 500 quid repair bill for their loan car, so at the moment I am facing a bill for 3 grand. My guess is that they were road testing the car before replacing the brakes. But of course, an M5 is a tempting car to have a 'play' in. I checked the time of the offence and it was 09.12 so at least they didn't take the car home. One forum member I know downloaded his race datalogger thingy from his M5 after it had been in, and at midnight it had recorded a speed of 150mph!

Nah, ignore it. Its a bunch of grannies in dayglo vests pointing hairdryers down the street.

He doesn't have to provide any details to them.

Sounds exactly like that (We just got a team of them round here)
Vigilantes 'R' us

Thing is, it's an M5. Inherently fast, consequently dangerous.

@stumpy....your car could have been doing daft speeds if it is the Granny Brigade. (No Powers as such)

Ask the DP why it happened?

I was aware of that but if you say you need the details it puts the ***** up the driver thinking they are going to get points and a fine.
