Looking on e-bay for an merc diagnostics interface for windows. They all seem to cover all models up to April 2004. What changed in april 2004 to make a difference . My s class was registered in sept 2004 but not sure when it would have been built, how can you find this out?

Anyone had experience of buying this kit on ebay and setting it up with a laptop?

Never an easy job working out what these things will cover, though it will be just basic fault codes for the engine.

You need a dedicated Diagnostic tester to cover the rest of an MB

You can find out the build date by putting your VIN into the russian website.

April 2004 saw the introduction of MOST based c class cars which was a huge change from the earlier D2B ones. the same thing happened to the CLK (W209) in June 2004. Not sure on the s class though. The VIN checker will tell you if its a newer facelifted car though. Look for option code 805 or 804 (2005 vs 2004) This is the model year of the car.
