My '01 E320 locked itself in Limp home the other day, checked the battery (the orig one) and it was giving 288 rather than 450 - so replaced it.

This made no difference, still locked in 2nd.
Got the car transported to MB, and they have stated to me that it was OK when they got it, and no faults logged.

Could it take a couple of hours of the new battery connected before the fault would be cleared? - or was the battery not the problem?

thoughts please

Got it back - Working fine.

MB Harrogate state that it was fine when they started to look at it (probably 4 hours after the new battery attached) - but I know it was not working 2 hrs after the new battery was attached when it left me on via the AA.

There were some 'low voltage' codes in the memory for the gearbox.

So, hopefully, the battery was the problem, and if you replace yours - give it a good 4 hours or so to allow the car to reset it's error codes.

Cheers
Peter
