I have had to replace 2 injectors in the last 6 months and have been advised by my mechanic and also on here that I should add cleaner (possibly once a month) to my diesel. Would anyone have any suggestions as to the best diesel treatment product to use ?

Many Thanks.

Some of the excavator guys with bobcats say they would not go past the ALFLOK. It comes in the form of crystals in the variety I have used.

Was thinking of using this in my car :

http://www.forteuk.co.uk/Diesel_fuel.htm

It states compatible with CDI engine and particulate filter, however the MB handbook states that no additives should be used. I guess MB are just happy to replace injectors and the like. I can't see using a diesel treatment could do any harm, only good. I am no expert though others may have a more expert opinion.

Found this on the Halfords site :

Have a look further down on this thread there is a suggestion that using two stroke oil in diesel can work wonders..

Anyone on the forum that uses two stroke oil in the diesel and can confirm some of the claims that have been made?

I think this might be a bit drastic for me and the cost would be a consideration also. If I have understood the thread you add two stroke to every tankful:eek:

I`ve used Redex from new.Now done 98,000 miles and had to replace one glowplug--this is much better than the two previous Mercs I`ve had, both of which did not receive any additive and they each needed four glowplugs before 40,000 miles.

I cant see any additive extending the life of glowplugs, they are basically electrically operated heaters and as such would be prone to electrical failure..

I'm using Millers deisel additive at the moment as the engine had developed a very lumpy tickover. Seems to be doing the trick. I think I will include Millers additive into a regular fuel additive schedule, probably use it every six months as I'm doing a lot of short runs at the moment.

To my knowledge the engine has not been treated with fuel additive prior to this and is on 61K, so not bad.

I do think that MB would rather change injectors than recommend an additive.

Hope this helps!

Thanks all. Very helpful advice. Got Redex in the garage and then happened to be in Halfords and they recommended it and Miller. Would rather spend £10 now and again than £300 to replace another injector!!!

I have to say since i first read this post around a week ago my car has been driving like a dream, engine really quiet... and smooth and loads a power..so had I added an additive to my car last week ..and it was on my mind to do so..I would have attributed the overall improvement to the additive and no one would have told me different..not scientific I know but still.............

Why not simply use BP Ultimate/V-Power or whatever, rather than spending £££££'s on additives?

there were independant tests carried out on these super diesels that concluded they were in fact unoticeably different in performance and protection, the fact that more percentage of bio diesel is used in normal diesel i feel has a negative factor on diesel injection systems, the arguement about 2 stroke oil as an additive has some ground i feel, i have started adding 2 stroke oil to my diesel, so far so good, the mercedes injectors on a different note i feel have built in obsolesence,

For those who want to use millers diesel power sport 4 regularly, i do and have used the power plus (previous model) for years, you can buy online for very reasonable price a 5 litre can.

try www.fasteronline.co.uk

Haven't had a diesel fuel or system problem since using these products, which incidentally i did long before they reduced the sulphur content of derv, and lost much of the lubricity in the process. (bet i'm going to wish i hadn't said that)
