Hello,

I was reading about that yesterday in Autocar, 25mpg..

Have to say the way things are going enjoy prtrol power while we can :)

At the Geneva show that had a TT with a 2.0Tdi engine, Still did 147mph, 7 seconds to sixty yet 45 + mpg

If they put the E320Cdi in the SLK imagine that... I know there was 'talk' maybe they don't 'want' it to be quicker than the 280 / 350 ??

:)

Though I cant see me ever changing mine,
( I will be too old by the time that I could afford it) a diesel SL could be OK

Diesel is still a very dirty fuel compared to petrol (or gasoline if you are from the states).

Many various sources blame diesel for allsorts of nasty ailments and airborne pollutents.

I wouldnt bet everything just yet as diesel being the way forward.

Theres allot more to it than simple MPG economy.

I do agree that a derv and a convertible is a strange mix...

Sat a the lights listening to the rattle (and they DO rattle no matter ho quite people think they are compared to a V6 or V8)

I guess the last laugh would be at the pumps?

I've no plans on changing to a derv any time soon and would rther look at LPG in a big petrol car. For my use / millage neither make much sence for me at the moment.

I know people that have spent £10k to change to a diesel to save about £150 per year

Yep its a silly world we live in.

People are probably looking to change now with the tax / petrol going up yet working out the price to change is probably costing them far more.

I guess the savings is a weekly / monthly thing when you fill up, as I buy our cars outright the cost there is gone. Its only then when you fill up do you see the money going.

SO glad I can walk to work and choice what I want not what will do the job :)

All you and A210AMG say about diesel was true -very much so - in the past. But it is changing so rapidly. Mercedes say that the new Bluetec engines -due here next year- will be the cleanest and the most economical engines in the world. It will be so clean that Dr Z will sit in an oxygen tent breathing only the exhaust from an S320cdi.

As for noise, please go to an MB dealer and ask to hear the engine of the new S320cdi. Is it there? Then open the bonnet. No it can't be.....Is it really a diesel?
