Diesel System Cleaner - does it work or should I avoid it?

I'm thinking of a Sonax additive named Diesel System Cleaner, which you put in the fuel tank. The car is a 2000 model E220 CDI with 287000 km on the clock. The idle is slightly irregular and I'm told it might be caused by dirty fuel nozzles. I'm not sure if the cleaner will do more harm than good.

Chuck it in. The injectors will certainly have some deposits which should get shifted by the cleaner.
most cleaners also have a lubricity additive which is a good idea now diesel contains less sulpher.

I agree with Dieselman. I would go a little further. Especially for those of you with a emission problem at MOT time. Take the fuel filter off & pour a little in there. Most of the time at MOT stations they don't get the vehicle engine hot enough.(The oil temp may be at 80degrees) but the engine is difinately not hot engough. This applies to the petrol engines. I have had a few customers who have booked the vehicle in for failing emission test. We have added the fuel cleaner as above. In the fuel filter & tank. Used the motor way to get the engine nice and hot, keeping the rpm high about 4000rpm. And you don't need to be going a warp 10!!!!. Just hold it in a lower gear. But don't go mad. Get the vehicle back to the station. And its like its producing fresh air!!

So fit the fuel cleaner. Give it a good run & see how it goes.
