Diesel used to "flush" engines

Saw a thread on the 190 site where a bloke flushed him engine using bog std diesel. Emptied the old oil, filled it with diesel, ran it for 5 minutes and then emptied that + filled up with decent oil. Says it runs quieter than ever now !!

Seems somewhat radical and dangerous; but looks like it was recommended (independently) via Naval engineers / mecahnics.

anyone done this?

hi luke. yes ive done it on plenty of old sludged up ford cvh motors to cure low oil pressure. & yes it works a treat. never needed to do it on a merc though.

It was also done years ago in the Vauxhall viva engines with paraffin to get rid of the mayonnaise and give the engine a good flush
