Hello

I have a problem with the digital outside temperature display in my 1996 C class.
It only seems to work when the car gets wet e.g. when being washed or driving though puddles and even then it show the incorrect temperature it shows “-38” and stops displaying anything when the car is dry. The clock and everything else on the instrument panel work fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Me thinks that the sensor is faulty or at least the wiring to it. Take it off clean up the electrical contacts and try it again. If no go then order up a replacement.

Hi,
Just fixed my outside temperature display, I can confirm that the sensor is behind the small part of the lower grill on the N/S.
Mine pushed into a forward facing hole within that grill.
Depending on the age of your car you may have to replace the entire sensor loom as the early chassis numbers the sensor was part of the wiring loom later ones it could be unplugged, this sensor will cost you less than a tenner.
Having looked at mine (unpluggable) 1 pin was corroded it may of worked if this pin was cleaned but it is very thin and very hard to get because of the way the sensor is constructed.
Have a look at the link below

Hope this has been of some help,
