Has anybody tried one of these dirt repellent coatings on the inside of their alloy rims? There are a few companies producing such a product, BASF for one. They where designed originally for use on windows on skyscrape's to help keep them clean.

Answering my own thread here! The reason I have brought this up is because through my work which is aerospace related. I have been given a solution of dirt repellent coating (7Fl.oz bottle and it's very expensive). It's called "interface" soil release polymer coating it was developed by the space industry and was used on the windows on the Shuttle. It then was transfered onto other aircraft windows this technology has now been around fifteen years or so. Of coarse it has spread into other industries like I'd mentioned in the first thread. it can be put on any material surface within reason i.e. metal, glass, plastic and laminate's. So I have a spare front alloywheel so I'll give it a good cleaning then coat it on the inside in this solution and try it, could be onto a winner here! :D

Here's a link to the company that made the solution I have been given. It has not come up on the site as it is not available for general sale.

Not with Airbus are you Dave?

Just that they're my biggest contract, and I know a lot of people there.

This means I want some of that stuff myself ;)

No I work for a company that services, repairs and retrofit machine tools, our clients are: Rolls Royce aero engines, Gardner Aerospace, Smith's Aero, GKN Westland, AETC, GE Turbine blade. It's all jet engine precision machining work.

All depends on how long it lasts before you need another coat. I use normal wheel wax which works a treat but tends to need repleneshing every 4 months or so.

Looking at the other stuff they do, I wonder if it's pretty similar stuff to Rain-X?
