I've been suffering battery drain for years (99 CLK230k) it's the anti-theft system, I've now decided the best way to stop this happening is to leave the alarm system turned off. My car is kept in a heavy duty alarmed garage.

The only problem is I can't find a way (which works each time) that will stop the alarm being turned on. I've tried the following :-

(i) When car turned off, leave doors unopened..........alarm automatically sets itself after 20 secs.
(ii) Also tried turning the key in the door to manually lock the door........again alarm automatically sets itself after 20 secs.
(iii) Tried blip to centrally lock, then unlock with blip..........alarm automatically sets itself after 20 secs.

how do you stop the damn alarm system being set ? GRRRRR

leaving the arm system "off"

Thanks Teky, although the instructions contradict themselves. It says if you "unlock" using the blip, the system deactivates, but if neither door is opened, then after 40 secs, the doors lock themselves and the alarm reactivates itself. If I do open the doors then close them and the system reactivates itself but does not lock the doors.

I seem to have fixed it by (i) manually locking the door (ii) using the blip to unlock and deactivate the system, opening the door and then unlocking/deactivating by using the blip again.

Jeez, this is so infurating, I've been using a trickle charger when the car not in use up until now, and thought I could find an easier way.

I don't want to change my car, but this is a ****** infuriating problem, and I don't know how to sort it out once and for all.

I think I'll get myself a 400diesel G Wagen instead.

Teky, by the way, some excellent information on different pages that you linked to. Are they from dealer servicing handbooks ?? Is it possible to get such a handbook for my E220cdi and Clk230k ?? Thanks
