I recently had the head gasket replaced on my 1990 230ce auto, due to oil in the water ..bursting hoses etc. This was carried out by a local garage.
Thing's are fine now on the engine side of things but since I have got the car back the gear changes have got very harsh ie thumping from the rear when i back off the throttle between 2nd gear and 3rd.This gearbox had absolutely no problems before rebuild.
I traced the vacuum pipes from the gearbox and found that the two pipes comming from the drivers side of the gearbox terminate on the valve/switch inside the bulkhead on the passenger side. This is the standard/economy valve activated by the S-E switch located on the gear change selector.Another single vacuum pipe is located on the passenger side of the gearbox ...i found this to be loose.I then connected this to a branch connection of hoses that take vacuum from the inlet manifold ..but to do this I had to remove an existing connection that connects to the rockercover breather whichI then blanked off.The result of this action was silky smooth gear changes... however it now slips in gear & revs high when I push on the throttle. This happens when I accelerate out of corners roundabouts but not on straight sections.I removed the pressure cable from the linkage but its still the same.Is there a seperate vacuum take off for this pipe as it sounds like there is too much suction is now going to the modulator or is there an intermediate valve to reduce the vacuum pressure.
Finally as there is definitely a connection missing can any body give me the locations/routing of all vacuum pipes located at the inlet manifold and rocker area. Thanks all
