discs and pads garage price ?

hi all just got car back from a service at a recoqnised mercedes service centre where it got its service

been told that my discs and pads will soon need replacing in about 1500 miles or so , he says the discs can only be supplied by mercedes . is this true the garage has quoted me a price of £650 for front and back is this a fair price what do you all think

any feedback would be a blessing
ps he was going to change wiper blades also says has to be mercedes is that right ?

I'm sorry but you can do miles better than that. I got brembo front disks and pads on my e class for £118 and £50 fitting. You should be able to get all side done for around £300 - £350 if not cheaper.

there will definitely after market discs & pads available for your car. The garage possibly meant that he's only willing to fit dealer supplied discs & pads as there will likely be less problems or come backs that he would then have to resolve. £650 for dealer supplied discs & pads fitted is probably about right, but you will be able to get it done cheaper with pattern discs & pads.
Like wise wipers ... loads of aftermarket wiper blades of varying quality. You pays your money etc etc

He is correct in saying the discs/pads can only be supplied by Mercedes as he is assuming you will have the work done at the main dealers.

Find a good recommended Mercedes specialist, supply the discs and pads yourself and save yourself some £££.
Autodoc in Germany have some very competitive prices for both and can be ordered using your Reg#.
Mercedes - Grangemouth also discount parts for forum members and will be OEM.

I can remember changing front discs and pads just once. A Mitsubishi dealer in the village did them much cheaper than Merc. A good job too.

Depending on your car spec , for a full set of Brembo discs from EPC it will be £300 ish . Brembo pads will be another £100 to the total so for a complete set of brakes :

£400.

A quick call to a MB parts department will tell you how much is for parts. I suspect that a good portion of that quote is labour.
MB stamped parts aren't actually made by MB, so you can use other makes - I've used Pagid discs in the past.
Wipers for MB are generally made by Bosch.

We are finding that some of the fluted discs fitted to 213s and 205s are only available from the dealer at the moment....

Its usually the cars with AMG sports discs.

Unfortunately, there is an awful lot of drivel spoken about brakes and there is a clear opening for some independent testing to bust through it.

Friction and the dispersion of the attendant heat are very simply measured.

The manufacturers prey on customers' understandable fears to profit.

They might have a point if they actually manufactured their own.
