:-(This is my first post as I was told that they (MB) don't have problems. Reading this forum tells me MB owners do and they are varied.
My key fob from C220CDI (Nov2004) is breaking up on the press button areas.
The unlock button has almost gone completely. I have only done 34000miles and never had anything like it happen on so called lower grade marques like Rover, Ford, Peugeot, Citroen, SEAT.
The dealer will not replace under warranty because they think I used my finger nails to press the buttons. They had this excuse ready when I reported it - they hadn't seen it at this point. If the key wont last it doesn't give me much confidence about the rest!!

Any suggestions greatfully received.

Is it me or do MB not really care about customer service and making sure we are happy and satifised.

I dont think there is a make out there that doesn't have problems. There is a break on the plastic on my unlock button so it seems to be a common weakness.
If the key works then they won't replace it. It depends on how bad it is, but if mine were bad enough I'd look at getting a used key from ebay and swapping the innards.

If you do not have the chrome key, you can buy a new one on Ebay for £10-£15

take out the metal blade, then the battery and the PCB can be slid out and inserted into the Ebay case

Thats a nice cheap fix for you :D:D

Thx

Thx for the advice.
If the cases are so cheap then why the hell does MB not just change them - good customer service and all that!

Can some kind sole help this dimwit - have taken the key out but I can't see how I get the battery and PCB out. To confirm it is the black plastic key.

Yes all makes have problems but I have never come across one like this at such an age or mileage.
My son drives HGV's that are up to 4 years old with 400,000km on the clock and he hasn't found any key like it.

Just use the metal key to press the whit/grey plastic bit in the side and the top of the remote with battery comes out

Look in you hand book changing battery in remote

Thx television

Got the battery out but can't see how the PCB slides out - seems to be well fixed in place.
Does the end with what looks like a lens come out with the PCB??

See I said I was a dimwit ;)
Must be a big one to get MB in the first place LOL!!!!!

If you bough one from Ebay then you could just lever that PCB out and discard.

Your own one will be tight and you could afford to break the case to open it, and yes it is all one lump.

It is only as tight to stop it from falling out when you change the battery
