display alarm

I bought e240 1999
the display gives this alarm (display difective)

could you help to understand that?!

Sounds like a duff dashboard display - does the rest of it work?
Mine is defective but it doesn't warn me about it - I can tell by myself!

at least give it a chance for someone to come on who knows how to help.

There are a number of reasons why you may see this message. It could be something as simple as a fuse failure or going to the other extreme the CAN could have shut down. Best bet is to get a code reader stuck on the car and go from there.

I've read of many displays being defective, but have never heard of the actual display 'admitting' to it.
