I'm looking for some help please with my 2001 CLK 230K Avantgarde concerning the message now showing on the display unit when the audio is used.
Until a couple of days ago everything was fine with the audio 10 CD, the trip computer would display the radio station or CD track number, the steering wheel controls also worked fine.
Without aparrent reason, the display now shows Audio and underneath 4 horizontal dashes, and the controls on the steering wheel no longer work.
I also note that the radio used to turn off when the ignition key was removed, now it satys on until manually turned off, there is no trouble shooting guide in the audio instruction manual, so I'm none the wiser as to what the problem might be.
The battery has not been disconnect and to my knowledge (so Iv'e told the wife) Iv'e not played with any buttons, any help would be much appreciated

My S Class does this sometimes. I'm selling it on Friday (not because of this) but I'd be interested to know the fix. I was told a software update would cure it.

Was it the cigar lighter fuse or the fuse that controls the ignition live ( terminal 15 ).

I was told that all I had to do was to disconnect the battery for an hour, this apparantly re-boots the system just like a home pc..... I did and it worked.
None the wiser of how or why though would love some detailed information, but for now it worked.

even quicker fix

just take the unit out of the dash, unplug the grey power plug, plug it back in and recode the radio. 2 minutes work. Ours does it sometimes, the fix lasts varying amounts of time, from days to weeks.
