Hi everyone, first post.
Can anyone tell me how to upgrade my existing cruise control (A180 sport exec 2023) to the PLUS version? Is it a matter of coding or something much more expensive.

You’ll currently have sensotronic cruise control, which is very different to distronic, the full distronic has additional radars front and rear, as well as cameras in the screen, adding is more than just coding unfortunately and would require all the components, wiring looms and then coding of all that and ADAR setup, on the whole a lot of money if you can’t get everything from a donor car

I have just checked the latest A Class price list (effective Dec 2022) and all models are simply listed as 'cruise control with limiter', so this is basic cruise control.
I know for a fact that in the past Mercedes did not fit adaptive cruise control (called Distronic) to any A/CLA (possibly all Mercedes models) as standard, but made it available as part of the optional Driving Assistance Package. I have always thought it was pretty mean of Mercedes not to fit adaptive cruise control as standard, at least on the higher trim spec models.
Looking through the current A class price list there is no mention of the Driving Assistance Package at all, which seems strange.

As previously stated to upgrade your basic cruise control to provide the radar function of Distronic would be prohibitively expensive, if it is even possible at all.

Yes but when asked you previously said your car has Distronic.

Anyway I think you have the answer to your question now, even if it was not what you wanted to hear.

the radar alone often sells for £600 secondhand on ebay - then the looms, controls, modules, fitting and coding - sure it possible - might be >3k GPB

on new cars with all the bings, bongs and safety ADAS systems a lot of the hardware is on the car
these days on VAG stuff you can do it all online and turn it on

rental junk is the aim
heated seats for £20 a month on BMWs
or active cruise on an Audi A3 here

https://www.audi.co.uk/uk/web/en/owners/audi-connect/faqs/how-to-renew-connect-licence.html

In your myAudi app, scroll down to Functions on Demand and tap Go To Shop.
The available licences will be shown along with the features which they will unlock on your car.
Depending on the model and age of your Audi, you may be able to purchase multiple licences giving you access to multiple features.
Licences are available for one month or for one year.

Adaptive Cruise is:- 1 month = 16 euros, 6 months = 80 euros, 1 year = 154 euros, 3 years = 416 euros or unlimited = 801 euros
Camera Based Traffic Sign recognition is:- 1 month = 7 euro, 6 months = 35 euros, 1 year = 67 euros, 3 years = 180 euros, unlimited = 345 euros

or to buy it on the Audi when it was built 2,145.00 GBP
  • Parking assist with parking system plus
  • Camera based traffic sign recognition
  • Adaptive Cruise Assist
  • Adaptive cruise control

But your A class is a 2023 model...what have you done with it?
Your A class is the entry level model so spec can only be compared like for like if the Golf is also entry level.

I think you'll find, at least from enquiries I've made to dealers, that Driving Assistance Package is not available on any current A or B class cars. Quite extraordinary to my mind when other manufacturers regard them almost as standard - MB should at least put them there as an option.

This is what I said in an earlier post...the Driving Assistance Pack is not currently listed as an option on the A or CLA class.
Looking back at my old price lists it was listed in January 2022 but missing in June 2022, so presumably this is when it removed as an option.

VW had it as mostly std on better then base spec cars in 2011
was rare as hell on a BMW, my 57 plate one was one of three in the country with it, and took a mate 5 months to order a 5 series with it in 2020... but its now becoming more popular

I suspect they can't get hold of the chips that do the magic yet, at least not in the quantities they'd need for manufacturing.

The point I was trying to make is that the OP's A class is base spec then he implied that the Golf is better equipped, but a direct comparison can only be made if the Golf is also base spec, which I suspect it is not.
Regardless though, he has probably left the forum for good now.
