Do I change the Gearbox oil?

Hi all,
Whats your thoughts.
E240 tiptronic, 5 years old - 60k so not exactly worn out. I understand that the gearbox is 'sealed for life' but reading comments on this forum, I begin to wonder whether this 'life' is little more than 100k. My C class had the oil and filters changed at 5 years old with little more than 30k on the clock. I imagine it's quite cheap to do so I start wondering why not - is it worth asking the garage to do it anyway - or am I just being daft?

personally I would - I have the predessor (sp?) to the tip box - the electronic 5 speed, and at 130K miles it shredded itself...

MB state a filter for the gearbox ( probably part number 140 277 00 95 - but check) - and the fluid IS expensive (like a tenner a litre).. but then a worn gearbox = mega bucks....

total cost seems to be 100 quid most of the time... just make sure they use the RIGHT oil and drain the torque converter...

They will not be able to entirely drain the torque converter but they'll be able to get about 75% of the old oil out. I have mine done every 100,000 miles (= about every 18 months) as a matter of course. So far, no gearbox problems!

I am also thinking of getting mine changed at it's next service.
I have about 54,500 on the clock .

Have 3,300 to go on the assyst, so a bit of time to go.
