Yep, sounds like an idiotic question but here's why. We bought the car (a 1983 280TE) off eBay and got such a good price were not unhappy when it appeared not to have CC, especially as it does have aircon which was an unexpected bonus. However, doing some routine maintenance on the dashboard (fixing the trip meter reset) I found the CC transducer on the back of the speedo. The manual and other sources on the web suggest this is only fitted if CC is present. It's wired up but I can't trace the wires and the Haynes manual drawing of the actuator location is so crappy it could be anywhere on the car. Of course, the key indication is that there's no switch but it seems possible this has either been removed or simply misplaced. I also think I can see the control cable (i.e. a second cable) going to the throttle.

My question is therefore, where is the actuator in this model and what does the CC switch look like and where exactly is it.

Any help appreciated.

Trip meter reset

I don´t have any idea of your CC, but I was just wondering, what was wrong with your trip meter reset? I have the same prob., and is soon going to fix it, so I would like to know what it was... Thanx!

For a car to have CC it needs an electronic Accelerator. Just go to any workshop and ask them to see if there is one in your car.

Sensor is also used to let KE know if car is moving on W124's. It is also used for the speed compensation input to the outside temperature gauge.

The acid test must be, do you have an actuator connected somehow to the throttle linkage in parallel with the normal throttle cable?

Actuator

Richard,

That's my key question as well! I can see what looks like a second cable connected to the throttle assembly but can't trace it. I need to know where the actuator would be to look for it!

Having said that, if the transducer on the back of the speedo may have other uses, I think it's more likely this is why it's there.
