I don't even know what 'sports brakes' are  I just assume that the brakes on my vehicle were designed to stop the weight & likely speed of it .... not unsurprisingly the ML's brakes are huge in comparison to those on the Smarts

If you get your pads from the dealer, they will supply the correct ones using your Vin#

Sports brakes usually imply bigger discs at the front.

Put your vin into a VIN decoder. There's one for Android you can download. It will tell you the factory spec of your car.

Google the disc part number. You'll get the pad number from that.

Better to to ring your local MB parts dept, they will tell you whether you have larger discs and pads ‘usual sport spec’, ask them for a price if they have them in stock you may get a pleasant surprise and do haggle (I did, just ask for their best price) better to fit original if possible. Incidentally the front and rear discs and pads tend to be bigger than the standard set-up

Car manufacturers are making a small fortune from fitting bigger brakes when it comes to renewal the cost is totally disproportionate to the slight addition in manufacturing costs, almost as lucrative as dropping the spare wheel and charging a kings ransom for anyone who wants to buy one. I’ve just spent £250 on a BMW spare wheel kit as I need to sort a kerbed alloy out as it would have left the car beached for x days while it’s done - progress lol

No, your car is fitted with OEM pads of which there will be equivalents. The fact your car has sport in the trim level is irrelevant.

Sports pads in this context are ones which have a higher performance than their OEM counterparts. Meaning they do not fade as quickly, but they may also not work as well as OEM's at lower temperatures. So if you do track days or have another need for sports pads, then get the OEM or equivalent ones.

Do you have the drilled discs? If yes this is the sports pack.

I have discovered that there are different compounds by aftermarket suppliers after fitting Textar Epads and wearing, basically cheesegrating the pad where the drill holes are later discovering 'not for sports pack'.

I fitted some metallic pads from ECP..... again the same issue. Also vibration like warped discs occurs intermittently as its the pad catching on disc hence wears the pad quicker than usual

Go on auto doc app as theres a set from TRW and Brembo that state suitable for sports pack

Cost for pads is about the same as for cars with non sports pack or comfort suspension (flat vented discs).

Trust me on this, it ****ed me off. I actually bought new pagid discs and epads, the pads were worn quicker and vibration occurred even though discs were true. Fitted a new set of epads.... waste of money, then went for metallic pads... again should have and now realise that i should have got the correct pads
