Do I need to fix this gearbox behaviour?

So, one thing I've noticed with the old rust bucket is that despite the switch being set to "standard", the gearbox pulls away in second gear all the time.

Now before everyone shouts "do a search" I have done - and I've read some highly technical stuff about removing the centre console, and performing surgery on some kind of plastic thingy, but I lost the will to live by the time I'd totted up all the fittings I could break.

The question I can't seem to find an answer to is, does it actually matter or do any harm? Even pulling away in second, the car is plenty quick enough (2800 Cc's don't you know).

If it's happy, then I'm happy.

It's meant to , it's a winter setting .

In “W” or “C” (depending upon gearbox) they pull away in second.
“S” should start in first but you’re not doing any damage in second
