Hello all, I've got a 1987 230e with 211k on the clock, and just keeps on going! However, like many others she wanders to the left and has uneven ride height at the front (about 25mm lower on drivers side). Are these 2 things related? as I understand from the forum you can get spring bushes to even things out.

The rear suspension has started creeking and squeeking like a good'un (not self leveling suspension) interestingly when the handbrake is on you can rock the car and it creeks'n'squeeks , handbrake released and no noise. But, the creek'n'squeek is still there when you hit the slightest of bumps ( both rear wheels ). Point to note when the rear is being lowered on the jack about half way down it makes that noise. Makes me think a component has to be under load to cause this problem.

Kind Regards Tony

I suspect you have a broken f/o/s road spring. Can be difficult to spot as they usually break way down inside the lower cup.
As for squeaks/creaks from the rear it's difficult to diagnose from a distance but there are loads of moving pivots and bushes etc. involved in the rear suspension. I would remove the rear wheels and soak all of these with silicone lubricant (or even old brake fluid at a push), especially the rear anti-roll bar bushes, although the clue regarding the handbrake would point me towards the hub area.
Doesn't sound too serious though (the squeak I mean).

Yup, some penetrating oil on the hinge pins for a couple of days, then normal lube should cure it. (Checkstrap can creak too, but this means removing the door card to grease the ball inside).

Don't forget the anti roll bar bushes are now working in a different plain. try a little silicon spray
