Having a decent car I mean, or at least one that you're personally fond of.

I do; when I look at the state of the road surfaces in this country (some of the worst I've ever had the misfortune to drive on), the overcrowded road network, the high rates of vandalism and car theft, the government's apalling attitude towards motorists, the poor standard of driving from the masses ('Ford Drivers'), and everyone twittering on about 'climate change; I think I may as well drive an old Metro.

rant over.

I dont car how rough the roads are, my benz has lots of ground clearance, soft springs and sensible profile tyres and i've only been cut up once since i've been driving it, as it gets really thirsty if i put my foot down i dont bother hurrying so the traffics no bother either. :D

You would probably use less fuel in an old Metro - I suspect they break down a lot.

That would please the green brigade.:rolleyes:

But you would also feel the potholes more keenly ...............

I don't rush either, but the road network is stretched beyond its capacity because the eco-mentalist government will not build any more roads, they are deliberately making driving as unpleasant as possible.

As for rough roads, it is the damage they do that bothers me. For this reason, I don't negotiate speed humps or poor road surfaces any faster than 10mph. If the people behind me have a problem with that, they should get on to the government to rip up the humps and resurface the road.

And people wonder why there lower ball joints and drop links need replacing so many times:confused:

Well at least it's cheap and I wouldn't care about it.

I'm considering putting the W124 in dry storage and driving a shed until we get a semi-sane government that will repair the roads, or until I'm able to emigrate.

didn't a chap with a moustache try that

road-fixing trick with the unemployed once in germany. I wonder whatever happened to him....
seriously though, would they be any better at the repairs than the lot we have at the present. soemtimes I think I prefer the road before they fix it.

Still, the thought of some of the credit-crunch masters of the universe doing a cool hand luke is too delicious to throw away. Can we put them on doggy-poo patrol as well please.

When In Sweden last summer the roads were silky smooth, just like a 7g box with all the updates.

Then my ex comes over here and moans at me "why do I have my tyres so hard" "the bumps are horrible" "I thought that MB were good, its nicer in my fiesta".

But bless her woolly socks she does have a good point, I cant remember a road ever being re surfaced

Please don't tell me you're comparing road repairs with the third reich :-?

the comparison is already there

he did put the unemployed to work on vast projects such as the autobahns. Roosevelt did something similar with Mt Rushmore.
I was being toungue-in-cheek of course. Our road repairers are more likely to be anarchists.
Having said that, there are still bits of pre-war autobahn in service. Concrete usually, but still working with very few repairs .
