Hi guys, I just bought a w204 c63 from a dealer and within 2 weeks when doing a 3pt turn the power steering gave out on me and the car started smoking when I turn the wheel. With a grinding noise. The car is HPI clear and also passed checks on CarVertical. But I still dont think something is right because I saw this (see image attached) behind both sides of steering wheel. Any idea why someone would pierce both sides of steering column? Also is power steering failure typically covered under warranty in the UK? Thanks in advance for your advice

Hello and welcome

Take it back to where you bought it and get them to fix it

The two holes are standard, and are for removing the airbag. At some point it's probably had a steering column module (quite common on w204).

Your symptoms sound like failed steering pump.

As above, take it back to the dealer and get them to sort. And don't worry about the back of the steering wheel

The holes may have been made to remove the airbag , not all steering wheels have the "removal" holes and have dimples that need to be punched through to allow a tool to be used to depress the airbag retaining spring.

As above. A lot of Mercedes have recently been recalled for Takata airbags to be replaced on a worldwide basis. Yours may well have been done. It’s no cause for concern.
Your fault sounds like steering pump or drivebelt related. Get it looked at sharpish as throwing the belt will result in overheating quite quickly
